The Cheek Implant Procedure
A cheek implant must be performed under some kind of anesthesia. The most common choices for a cheek implant are IV sedation and general anesthesia.
Dr Blinski will make an incision where the implant is supposed to go, and then insert the implant either directly on top of or right below your cheek bone. The process is repeated for the other side. The implants will be checked to make sure that the look suits your features, and will be sutured into place. At times, the implants won’t be sutured in place, and only the pocket will, relying on the collagen in your cheeks to secure the implants.
Dr Blinski then sutures up the incisions and, if the implants were not sutured in place themselves, wrap your head to hold them in place while you heal.
Cheek Implant Recovery
After undergoing cheek implant surgery, someone will need to take you home and remain with you for a minimum of 24 hours. In very few circumstances, Dr. Blinski may suggest a short stay in the hospital.
Your head and face may be taped, especially if the implants were not sutured into place. Patient’s generally experience mild discomfort and pain, especially at the incision sites.
Bruising and swelling usually takes about 3 weeks to subside, but can last up to several months. Generally speaking, you can return to work after 1 to 2 weeks.
